Why you should eat liver and how to do it without tasting it!

Liver. If you are like me, the word just makes me shudder a little bit. The thought of trying to consume it literally makes me cringe. <shudder>

Why you should eat liver and how to do it without tasting it! Liver is a great source of vitamins and minerals and here is an easy way to get it down.

Seriously. I have tried it so many ways. I know some will say if it is properly prepared then it will taste great. Friends, I have had liver made by someone is awesome at cooking all types of meat and even when I tried to hide it in my mashed potatoes I could not gag it down.

However, I keep trying to like it and eat because it is so good for you.

Why is liver so good?

  • It is has a full range of B viamins, including B12
  • It is a good source of iron that is easily absorb-able
  • It is a good source of vitamin A
  • It is high in protein
  • It contains COQ10

And that is kind of just the tip of the ice burg when it comes to why you should be eating liver.

Liver also has gotten a bad rap over the years. People will often say you should not consume liver because it holds on to toxins. The liver does not hold onto toxins, it helps filter toxins out of your body. This is why keeping your liver healthy is super important. If your liver is bogged down, it can’t filter everything it needs to out of your body. (This is also why it’s good to keep lymph fluid moving so your body is able to moving things the way it should)

So, despite the fact that I know how good liver is for me, I seriously can’t hack it.

I even had good intentions of cutting liver up into small pieces and freezing them to take. After some serious and honest thoughts though, I realized I would never take them. I have a difficult enough time swallowing large pills and the thought of defrosting liver on my tongue wasn’t really going to fly. (You are totally getting the full confessions from me in this post!)

One day, I was doing some supplement browsing and I came across desiccated powder liver capsules. Say what? I had to look more. It turns out that you can buy powdered, grass-fed liver capsules to take! Where have you been all my life?

The Perfect Supplements brand makes a very affordable, (affiliate link) high quality liver capsule. This is totally awesome for those of us who aren’t hard core enough to eat liver. (I KNOW I am not the only one!)

Also, just like any meat, it’s important to know your source. You want to make sure you are getting liver from grass-fed, free ranges cows. Perfect Supplements brand is made from hormone free cattle with no use of pesticides. Phew!

So, that is the easiest way I know of to get a good source of liver into your daily routine with out the hassle. However, if you happen to have your own source of grass fed liver, you can totally make your own capsules. It is a bit time consuming but very worth your time in my opinion.

I have the step by step instructions for how to make your own on this post. (I was going to include it here but I’m getting long winded so it will be up next week!)

I love these! I’m not a huge fan of liver, so I has to HEAVILY disguised if I’m going to eat it. This is a great supplement for those who are positive MTHFR!

I am honestly still a little bit torn if liver is good for you or not. I used to eat it as a kid and teen and maybe had it once as an adult. But I still remember the (awful) smell when my mom unpacked the raw… eewh. Sorry, I guess I just shuddered, too :) But, I will look into it some more and capsules definitely sound like the way to go here. Thanks, Jessica.

This is a great idea! I’m not a big liver person so this is a great solution for me. Great post thanks! Best wishes in 2016.
