What your hair can tell you about your health

For those of you following the blog a bit, you know I have been working on healing my Hashimoto’s. Last year I took the plunge and finally did a hair tissue mineral analysis and I am so thankful I did. I will be working on a post on just what it did for my health but for now, here is a bit more about this test. I’m so thankful that Kristin shared this with me so make sure you check out her link below.

One of the best ways to fix our health is to get a hair tissue mineral analysis. Find out what your hair can tell you about your health.

The absolute *BEST* way to fix our health is to get a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA). Minerals are excreted in our hair in specific patterns which can detect certain trends of illnesses like adrenal fatigue or predict the likelihood of developing an illness like hypothyroidism, diabetes or cardiac problems.  Dr. Linus Pauling, a winner of 2 Nobel Prizes, stated that ‘all diseases can be linked back to mineral deficiencies.’

Why are we mineral deficient? Between stress, antibiotics, pharmaceutical drugs, GMOs, and the fact that our soils have been depleted of minerals since at least 1936. It is no wonder why we have such an epidemic of autoimmune illnesses.

HTMA is not a new science, like many will have you believe. It has been around for about 80 years. Many believe that a hair test is even more valid than blood tests because blood is always trying to maintain balance, so results can vary day to day.

One of the best ways to fix our health is to get a hair tissue mineral analysis. Find out what your hair can tell you about your health.

Hair analysis shows you the relationships between about 30 minerals in your body so you get an extremely in-depth, personal view of your situation with a very non-invasive method.  Imagine how much blood you would need to test for 30 minerals.

Minerals are needed for millions of enzymes as co-factors, inhibitors or even as the enzyme themselves. Enzymes are what keeps our bodies running. When we are low on minerals, our bodies cannot physically function correctly.

The HTMA test shows us the levels of minerals we have for magnesium, potassium, sodium, calcium, sulfur, boron, manganese, copper, iron, and zinc. It also gives us a view on any potential heavy metal toxicity from things like mercury, tin, arsenic, and aluminum.

HTMA also gives us the ratios between some of the most important nutrients, which is the key to making individualized treatments.

HTMA can be helpful for healing from common illnesses so it truly can be an invaluable tool to getting back on the right track.  HTMA testing works best when done every 3-6 months to help determine the changes going on in your body- it is possible to have to tweak your program every few months depending on how you are healing.

The ratios that we focus on are for adrenals, thyroid, metabolism, blood sugar, infection, vitality, and hormones. That is seven huge factors that influence our health.

An imbalance in one area will create symptoms- most people have 4+ imbalances on the HTMA. You get so much information with one test and with me, you will get to go over everything that is relevant to you.

For example: the thyroid needs copper, calcium, potassium, Vitamin A, and several other nutrients for proper function.  On the HTMA, the thyroid ratio is calcium/potassium.  These two minerals are antagonistic and they need to be balanced in order for the thyroid to function properly.

We need calcium in the correct amount to keep both the calcitonin and parathyroid hormones in check. People with a high calcium/potassium ratio tend to be hypothyroid, and those with a low ratio tend to be hypothyroid.

Thyroid health is very important but it is also imperative that we focus on adrenal health.  The adrenals produce about 50 hormones, where the thyroid only has a handful.  It is important to address both of these glands in order to truly heal the body.

If you are interested in doing an HTMA, Kristin is taking new clients and her information and rates are listed below.

Also, the NTP I work with, Lydia, is taking limited clients are her information can be found here.

*An HTMA consult with me includes:* the hair test, analysis, lifestyle and diet recommendations, and unlimited support while on the healing program, and access to my Facebook group Mineral Mavens.  *This package is $175
right now- a great deal!  *

*I am very pro-food based nutrition as this is how Mother Nature intended us to get our nutrients. Because of the state of our soils, it is imperative that we look for organic and nutrient dense foods.  I use foods, herbs, and food-based supplements in my programs.  Many people are dealing with several imbalances and deficiencies at once so using food as medicine is gentle and effective compared to synthetic, isolated, and lab-made nutrients. *

My hours are also flexible when it comes to consults- *weekend* and *evening* hours are available.

That’s a big question. 😉 But, I was low and high in many things and what is neat about this school of thought is that they look at the ratios of the minerals to see how your body is holding up. This was the first test that showed I had major adrenal fatigue.

Wow. I didn’t know our hair could tell us so much. I knew they could test it for drugs and such. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me they can analyze it for all kinds of things.

I need to share your post with our daughter. She is 12 and was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s 4 years ago and it wrecks havoc on her hair. Thanks for sharing !

I love this. What an ingenious idea – there are so many times that we are guessing what is going on with our bodies, but this is such a good way to connect the dots (painlessly!) and find out what is going on inside with our makeup. I am going into health coaching and I am going to refer people to this type of service. I think that we are responsible for our own health, and this is a great tool for people to do their own research about what is going on. Thank you for highlighting this idea for all of us!

I remember when I was anorexic way back when…. My hair was falling out in huge hunks! Oh man, it was devastating to me, but I mean, I am actually shocked that I WAS SHOCKED that it was happening!

This always amazes me. Thank you so much for sharing this with us at Savoring Saturdays linky party.. I’m super late commenting this weekend, so sorry. We always appreciate you sharing with us. Have a great weekend Jess! Hope you’ll join us again.
