Lemon essential oil-my weapon for adhesive stains

Lemon essential oil has many uses, including removing adhesive from clothing. It is a great essential oil to keep on hand, from laundry to disinfecting.

I’ve said it before but I am a supplement/natural health products junkie. I’ll admit it! Essential oils are a part of that obsession.

Lemon essential happens to be one of my favorite oils for cleaning. It has strong anti-microbial actions so it makes it a perfect addition to cleaners to help kill germs. I love it for wiping down the counters in my kitchen because I KNOW it is killing bacteria.

I also like to add this to laundry to help boost stain removal and aid with fresh smelling clothes.

When we need something uplifting, adding lemon to the diffuser always perks us up! It makes the house smell fresh and clean.

However, my experiment today using lemon essential oil is something new. During my research I came across a statement that said lemon essential oil could be used to get adhesive off of clothing.

Well, hello! I have a shirt that somebody, I won’t point fingers, washed with a sticky name tag still on it. No, it wasn’t just a play shirt but in fact, a brand new shirt of my husband’s.

I tried a lot of things to get the glue off but it was useless. My husband now had a brand new yard work shirt.

Since I already had lemon essential oil on hand, I decided to give it a try on the shirt. I really had nothing to lose.

I put a few drops and rubbed it in the shirt. I let it sit for a bit and then rinsed it in the washing machine.

What do you know? The stain looked incredibly better!

So, I went for round two with the lemon essential oil and actually worked it into the shirt. I let it sit for about an hour, then threw it in the washer to rinse out.

After the final washing…..

Lemon Essential Oil

SUCCESS! This shirt has plagued me because I was so irritated at myself for ruining a new shirt! It looked new again. Woot.

I will not be without lemon essential oil in my house. I have a little one who loves stickers on his shirt and often forgets to take them off before the wash. I have used this method numerous times now and it never fails.

What is your favorite way to use lemon essential oil?

Hmm… definitely keeping this in mind. I’ve never tried using essential oils in cleaning before, but I probably should. Thanks for sharing this at Savoring Saturdays!
