Gluten Free Tuna Patties

I don’t like salmon. Phew. I feel better now that I said that. I think every whole foods person likes salmon. I just can’t handle it.

And I think every Trim Healthy Mama likes Salmon Patties. I really want to like them. I have a friend that makes them often and I really think I should like them.

I decided to try making them with tuna! I know, I’m a genius. Nobody has ever thought of it. :) Not really since I googled a ton of recipes to sort through. Many contained gluten, of course, so between google and the Trim Healthy Mama Crabby Patty Recipe, I had success!

These were easy, fry up great and my kids loved them. I almost always have all these ingredients in the house so they may become a staple.

Gluten Free Salmon Patties

Mix up the tuna, spices, eggs and oats, distributing everything well. Because the amount of oats is so small, this is an S meal.

I’m a big fan of stainless steel pans and the key to not sticking is to heat the pan first. Heat the pan well before adding the oil. Then add the oil and heat that as well. I promise, no sticking.

I use a filtered coconut oil for frying. No coconut flavor but has a good heat point.

Shape the patties into small burger shapes and let fry until browned on one side and then flip until the other side is browned

The timing just depends on how high you heat it. Say, like, you have to turn it down to change the movie for your kids 8,000 times, it will take longer.

And that is it. I was so excited because brown and crunchy is awesome and helped some cravings I was having. Bonus, everyone liked them and had second helpings.

This recipe got 10 patties but I think you could do 12. I was playing with the size. Served with sauteed zucchini and onions and a side of farm fresh tomatoes and it was perfect for a fast, simple, summer meal!

Gluten Free Tuna Patties

A gluten free, easy meal.
Ingredients
  • 2 cans of tuna fish
  • 3 eggs-beaten
  • ⅓ cup oats
  • ½ finely chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp of oregano (Less if you are using fresh)
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • a dash of salt (we didn't use much as my kids ate them with mayo)
Instructions
  1. Open and drain tuna
  2. Break up tuna was a fork
  3. Add oats, eggs, onion, and spice and mix to distribute well.
  4. Heat up pan and oil
  5. Shape tuna into patties and fry until golden brown then flip
  6. Fry until other side is golden

    Hey, I also don’t eat grains, but this recipe is fantastic if you substitute potato flakes in place of the oats. Also, they are amazing with a dollop of ranch dressing on top. :)

    I just made these for dinner and they were a hit. :-) I loved the strong oregano flavor these had. Even my “picky” eater gobbled his up. I only used two eggs because mine were JUMBO.

      Yeah! So glad you liked them. The oregano was something I grew to love while in college with my tuna. They did Italian tuna melts. So good. (PS…good to see you back around the blogging world!)
