Epsom salts are one of the key staples in my medicine cabinet. In fact, I used these before I even really knew just how useful they were. I know people talk about epsom salts baths, but I wanted to share with you some of the others ways I use them around our home.
And I do want to touch on another reason I love epsom salts, besides their benefits, is that eppies are economical and you can find them in commercial stores. Home remedies don’t have to be expensive and special ordered, sometimes the common, traditional items can be key.
When my friend in Kentucky texts me and wants to know what to she can do for XYZ, I want to be able to recommend something she can find that works. Not everyone has access to herbs, oils and remedies so simple is good.
Five ways to use epsom salts
We use epsom salts for muscle aches and injuries around here. Epsom salts are basically magnesium which can help with all muscle tightness or cramps
- Extra Magnesium
For people with gut issues, magnesium is hard to digest. Where does that leave a person? To supplement using something that goes through the skin. So, for those of us that need some extra magnesium. (And really, who doesn’t??), then eppie bathes are a great solution.
- Helps detox
Eppies also help with detox. During times of supplements changes and routine, a good dose of epsom salts in the bath will help pull out some of those toxins you are dealing with. When I am struggling I make sure I take a good 30 minute soak with epsom salts a night. (If you want to up your game to get rid of the detox, skin brush BEFORE your bath.)
- Pulls out infection
Epsom salts are also great out pulling out infection. My husband had a HORRIBLE infection on his thumb from a cat scratch. We ended up having to go to the doctor and when the doctor saw it he couldn’t believe how well my husband was doing. We believe the salts were really working hard at pulling the infection out.
One of my favorite uses for espom salts are for relaxing. Yup, I love my eppie baths. I can feel the tension in my shoulders melt away when I sink into the tub.
So, for something being so simple, epsom salts are a work horse when it comes to natural remedies. I always have a bag around. (If you can’t find them in a local store, Amazon allows carries it)
Tell me, what are your favorites uses for epsom salts?
